Beef Tongue Soup With Noodles and Vegetables
A dish that is definitely hard to say no to is a deliciously filling plate of Pan Fried Noodles. It's the kind of meal that also goes with a great variety of toppings and spices. It can work like a perfect blank canvas for most recipes with its satisfying texture and somewhat neutral flavor. But a lot of Filipinos love to have it in this very classic way— with an abundance of leafy vegetables and the most tasty slices of beef.
You might have seen this Pan Fried Noodles with Beef and Veggies dish in Filipino celebrations. The long noodles can symbolize long life, which makes it perfect for birthdays. But more than that, it just boasts the kind of terrific, savory flavor that you might not be able to get in many other kinds of pasta.
It uses a balanced amount of sesame oil, oyster sauce, Shaoxing cooking wine, and many other seasonings. This makes it such an ideal meal to have when you're looking for something satisfying, but also filled with all the right and nutritious components. But before we get into the recipe, let's talk about one of the hero ingredients, and how we prepare them.
What are Pan Fried Noodles:
Some people enjoy noodles for their smoothness, but if you haven't tried them pan fried, I'd say you're missing out. Pan Fried Noodles make for a deliciously perfect base with an amazing crunchiness that pairs nicely with a thick, rich sauce. And of course, you can also count on a tender interior for your noodles that make them even tastier. We get this kind of texture by first boiling the noodles, and then proceeding to fry them until they turn light brown in color.
You may also be familiar with the term 'chow mein,' which actually refers to Pan Fried Noodles. For this kind of dish, you can use a variety of noodles from thin wonton soup noodles to Hong Kong pan fry ones. But for this recipe in particular, we will use some Good Life Egg Noodles, which truly make for a nice and crispy dish. And of course, it wouldn't be complete without our fair share of vegetables, such as carrots and bok choy. And there's a bunch more components joining the party for this recipe, and so here's the steps to add and cook them for our dish!
How to make Pan Fried Noodles with Beef and Veggies:
As mentioned earlier, we start this off by preparing our noodles and letting them boil. Take your 400 grams of Good Life Egg Noodles, and follow the package instructions to boil and get them ready. After that, discard the remaining water. Then we are going to start pan-frying!
How to pan fry noodles:
Start off by heating up 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in your pan. Then take the noodles you prepared from earlier, and integrate them as well. We are going to fry the bottom part of the noodles, until they become light brown. Then flip them over so we can fry the other side. Now if your pan is too small, or it's taking too long to cook all together, you can also try cooking them in two batches.
Once they're all good and cooked, you can take the noodles out, and arrange them on your serving dish. Now we can work on our delightfully rich sauce!
Making the sauce and toppings for Pan Fried Noodles:
For this, we will put together 3 ½ tablespoons of oyster sauce, 2 teaspoons of Good Life Sesame Oil, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Also add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of Shaoxing cooking wine, 1 ½ cups of water, 3 teaspoons of cornstarch, and ½ teaspoon of ground white pepper. Mix these all together in a bowl. Then set this aside.
Now heat up your remaining oil on the same pan from earlier. Place ½ lb. of beef that you've sliced up into thin pieces in the pan. Then stir fry this until it turns nice and brown. After that, integrate 1 onion you've sliced, 2 cloves of garlic you've minced, and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic. Continue to cook these together until your onion softens.
Then go ahead and add ¼ cup of chopped green onions, and 3 bunches of bok choy. Cook this up for 1 minute. Now it's time to put all of these yummy toppings together with our sauce! Pour the sauce mixture into the pan, and stir this thoroughly. Now keep this cooking until your sauce thickens enough.
After that, all you have to do is pour the delicious mixture on top of the fried noodles. Make sure to have it while it's hot!
